The lines and what they cost
USFans quotes shipping per parcel after it is packed and weighed at the warehouse. The exact figure depends on destination, weight, dimensions and contents, and the estimator on the USFans fee page will show the current quote for your parameters. The bands below are what the lines have been doing as of September 2026; treat them as planning numbers, not a price list.
| Line | Approximate rate | Transit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tax-free line (US) | $12–15 per kg | 12–18 days | US buyers, apparel, most parcels |
| EMS | $18–22 per kg | 10–15 days | Most countries, small battery items |
| FedEx / DHL express | $22–35 per kg | 5–8 days | Time-sensitive, watches, electronics |
| Sea freight | $6–8 per kg | 30–45 days | Heavy consolidated parcels, no hurry |
Actual weight versus volumetric weight
Carriers bill whichever is higher: the actual weight on the scale or the volumetric weight, which is the parcel's volume converted into kilograms. On most air lines the formula is length × width × height in centimetres divided by 6,000 (some use 5,000). A 40 × 30 × 25 cm box is 30,000 cubic centimetres, which is 5 kg volumetric even if it weighs 2 kg.
This matters more than the per-kg rate for bulky, light items: sneaker boxes, structured bags, puffer jackets and anything shipped in a retail box. It matters very little for tees, jerseys and folded sweatpants, which are dense.
How to estimate before you buy
Add up the item weights using the rough figures below, add about 10 % for packaging, then multiply by the rate band for your line. Round up to the next half kilo because most lines bill in 0.5 kg or 100 g steps with a minimum.
| Item | Typical weight | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| T-shirt or jersey | 200 g | Dense, packs flat |
| Shorts or sweatpants | 300–500 g | Dense |
| Hoodie | 500–700 g | Zip-ups and heavyweights up to 1 kg |
| Jeans | 600–800 g | Dense |
| Tracksuit (set) | 1–1.3 kg | Two pieces |
| Sneakers | 1–1.5 kg boxed | 700–900 g without box; box adds volume |
| Puffer jacket | 1–1.5 kg | Volumetric unless vacuum-packed |
| Watch, belt, cap, socks | 50–200 g | Box can add 500 g |
| Backpack | 600–900 g | Often billed at 1.5–2 kg volumetric |
Worked estimates
Three parcels, priced at the low and high end of each band. Item prices use medians from the spreadsheet at the indicative rate of 0.138 USD per CNY and include the 5 % service fee; they exclude domestic shipping and any duty.
| Parcel | Weight | Tax-free US | EMS | Express | Sea |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 tees + 1 pair of shorts + socks | ~1 kg | $12–15 | $18–22 | $22–35 | usually not offered under 2–3 kg |
| 1 hoodie + 1 pair of sneakers + 2 tees + 1 pair of pants | ~3 kg | $36–45 | $54–66 | $66–105 | $18–24 |
| 1 puffer + 1 tracksuit + 1 pair of sneakers + 1 hoodie | ~5 kg | $60–75 | $90–110 | $110–175 | $30–40 |
Ways to cut the bill
The per-kg rate is fixed by the carrier; the kilograms are partly under your control. The list is in order of how much each usually saves.
- Consolidate. One 3 kg parcel is cheaper than three 1 kg parcels because each parcel carries a minimum charge and its own packaging.
- Remove shoe boxes. Ask USFans to ship sneakers in a bag with the box flattened or discarded. This can cut a pair from 1.5 kg volumetric to under 1 kg.
- Vacuum-pack down jackets, hoodies and tracksuits. USFans offers this as a packing option; it reduces volumetric weight and does not harm synthetic fill.
- Drop retail packaging on watches, bags and accessories unless you want it.
- Use the tax-free US line for US addresses if speed does not matter; it is roughly half the express rate.
- Apply a shipping coupon. USFans issues them periodically; they apply at the shipping payment step and are worth more on a heavy parcel.
Do not chase the cheapest line for battery items or fragile goods. Sea freight and some economy lines exclude lithium batteries, and a cracked watch crystal costs more than the express surcharge.
What is not included
The shipping quote does not include import duty or VAT in your country, which the carrier collects on delivery when applicable, and it does not include the 5 % service fee, which was charged at purchase. Insurance, where offered, is a separate line at the shipping step. If a parcel is lost in transit, the claim is made through USFans against the carrier, and payouts follow the declared value, which is one reason not to declare implausibly low.
Questions
What is the cheapest way to ship from USFans to the US?
For most apparel parcels, the tax-free US line at $12–15 per kg. Sea freight at $6–8 per kg is cheaper per kilo but takes 30–45 days and is meant for heavy consolidated parcels.
How is the shipping weight decided?
The warehouse weighs and measures the packed parcel. You are billed on the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm divided by 6,000 on most air lines).
When do I pay for shipping?
At the shipping step, after the items have arrived at the warehouse and you have chosen a line. It is separate from the item payment.
Does USFans insure parcels?
Insurance is offered as an option on some lines at the shipping step. Whether to take it depends on the declared value and the line; express carriers lose fewer parcels than economy lines.
Why is my quote higher than the per-kg band?
Usually volumetric weight, a minimum charge, a remote-area surcharge, or a battery or fragile-goods surcharge. The estimator on the fee page shows the components.
