USFans customs and import tax: what to expect in 2026

How customs declarations work on USFans, what the US, EU, UK, Canada and Australia charge on small parcels from China in 2026 in general terms, and how to avoid holds.

What this guide is and is not

Customs rules changed a lot between 2024 and 2026, and they keep changing. This guide describes the general position for parcels shipped from China through an agent as of September 2026, so you know what kind of bill to expect. It is not tax advice, it does not quote a number that you should rely on without checking, and the linked official pages take precedence over anything here. Where a figure is given, it is the kind of figure to look up, not the figure itself.

How the declaration works on USFans

At the shipping step, USFans asks you for a description of the contents and a declared value. That information goes on the customs form and the carrier's electronic manifest. Customs in your country use it to decide whether duty or VAT is due and whether to inspect the parcel. Some lines set the declaration for you within a fixed range; others let you enter it.

Two rules apply regardless of country. Describe generically and truthfully: "clothing", "shoes", "accessories". And declare a value that is plausible for the contents and weight. A 4 kg parcel declared at $10 is exactly the profile that gets pulled for inspection, and it also sets the payout if the parcel is lost.

Under-declaring is a customs offence in every country listed here. It can mean the parcel is reassessed, held, fined or returned. The saving is rarely worth it on the values in this spreadsheet.

United States

For years small parcels into the US entered duty-free under the $800 de minimis rule. That exemption was suspended for goods from China and Hong Kong in May 2025 and for all countries from late August 2025. As of September 2026, parcels from China can be assessed duty regardless of value, with the rate depending on the goods and the tariff measures in force, and carriers collect it before delivery, sometimes with a brokerage fee on top.

The "tax-free" label on the USFans US line refers to how the line is routed and cleared; it does not exempt you from US law. Expect that a duty bill is possible on any parcel, budget for it, and check the CBP site for the current position on de minimis and country-specific tariffs before a large order.

European Union

VAT is charged on all goods imported into the EU from the first euro, at the destination country's rate (mostly 19–25 %). Customs duty has historically been waived below €150, but the EU has agreed to end that exemption for e-commerce parcels, with implementation planned during 2026; whether it is in force on the day you order is something to check on the European Commission customs pages. When duty applies, it is charged on the value plus shipping, and the carrier usually adds a handling fee for clearing the parcel.

In practice, an EU buyer should expect VAT on every parcel and possibly duty, collected by the carrier before delivery. Sellers or platforms that charge VAT at checkout (IOSS) do not apply to agent parcels, so the carrier collects it.

United Kingdom

The UK charges VAT (20 %) on imported goods. For parcels valued up to £135, VAT is meant to be collected at the point of sale for marketplaces, which does not apply to agent shipments, so the carrier collects it on arrival. Above £135, customs duty may apply as well, on top of VAT, with a carrier handling fee. The UK government has announced a review of the £135 low-value threshold; check the gov.uk page on goods sent from abroad for the current rules.

Canada

Canada's duty-free and tax-free threshold for postal and courier parcels from countries other than the US and Mexico is low (CAD 20), so most parcels from China attract GST or HST and, depending on the goods, duty. Courier brokerage fees are common and can exceed the tax on a small parcel. The Canada Border Services Agency publishes the current thresholds and the process for paying.

Australia

Australia charges GST (10 %) on low-value imported goods, generally collected by platforms at the point of sale for goods up to AUD 1,000; for agent parcels the mechanics differ, and duty and GST at the border apply above AUD 1,000. Most spreadsheet-sized parcels fall below that. The Australian Border Force site has the current rules.

Trademarked goods

Value is one question; the goods themselves are another. Customs authorities in all of the countries above can detain and destroy goods that infringe a trademark, and the value declared does not matter for that decision. This spreadsheet does not verify whether any listing is genuine; the brand column is a tag from the listing name. If a parcel is seized on those grounds, neither USFans nor the carrier refunds it.

Practical checklist

Before you press ship:

  • Look up your country's current threshold on the official page linked below; do not rely on a forum post from last year.
  • Declare a plausible value and a generic, honest description.
  • Budget for VAT or duty plus a carrier handling fee, especially in the EU, UK and Canada.
  • Do not split one order into many small parcels to stay under a threshold; it costs more in shipping and it looks like what it is.
  • Keep the USFans invoice; carriers sometimes ask for proof of value before releasing a parcel.

Questions

Will I pay customs on a USFans parcel to the US?

Possibly. The $800 de minimis exemption was suspended in 2025, so duty can be assessed on parcels from China regardless of value. Budget for it and check CBP for the current rate.

What does "tax-free line" mean then?

It describes how the line is routed and cleared, not a legal exemption. You remain responsible for any duty your customs authority assesses.

How much VAT in the EU?

The destination country's standard rate, mostly 19–25 %, on the goods plus shipping, usually with a carrier handling fee. Duty may apply in addition once the €150 exemption ends.

Can USFans declare a low value for me?

Some lines set a declaration range. Whatever is entered, under-declaring is your risk, not the agent's. Declare plausibly.

What happens if a parcel is held?

The carrier or customs contacts you for payment or documents. Respond with the USFans invoice. If the goods are seized for trademark reasons, there is no refund.

Does the declared value affect lost-parcel claims?

Yes. Claims are paid against the declared value. Declaring $10 on a $150 parcel caps a claim at $10.
